Know thyself

For our final blog post of Q2, I thought we would reflect on our personality and on how unique we all are. At the beginning of this quarter we took a series of creativity tests and discussed the importance of bringing your own uniqueness to a complex task such as the numerous tasks you've all been exploring.

A central theme in the psychologist Carl Yung's infamous theory of individuation is that the integration of opposites while maintaining autonomy is central to human development. What I think this means is that we grow stronger together by being exposed to different personalities while holding onto who we are.

Take this Carl Yung inspired quiz and share your results on our blog and share whether you agree or not with the results.

  1. My results:

    ENFP
    Extravert(66%) iNtuitive(19%) Feeling(59%) Perceiving(3%)

You have distinct preference of Extraversion over Introversion (66%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (19%)
You have distinct preference of Feeling over Thinking (59%)
You have marginal or no preference of Perceiving over Judging (3%)

I agree with the results, and personally I know how I am. I know that I tend to act upon my feelings instead of thinking things through fully. I make decisions pretty quickly, and I never have a problem with saying how I feel about things.

  2. I got the result of having the ENTP personality. ENTP stands for:
    Extravert (22%) iNtuitive (19%) Thinking (38%) Perceiving (9%)

I agree with this quiz. I acquire satisfaction through things otuside of me like materials, other people's emotions, etc. I tend to use my experiences, my intuituin and knowledge to solve issues, problems or move past obstacles in order to get to where I want to be. I think about things very deeply in order to get a more satisfactory achievement and get more information and deeper meaning out of it. Lastly, I perceive everything that is the problem and surrounds the problem or person. I take the time to understand than to judge.

Generally, ENTPs build successful careers in areas requiring intensive intellectual efforts, calling for creative approach and presenting intellectual challenge such as careers concerning education, engineering, natural sciences, counseling, business management and education management.

I am the type of person to "go big or go home", face every challenge as it comes, yay to progress and nay to the rules, and to excel and show off the intellectual side.

  3. The results of my personality test was an ISFP. An ISFP is 38% introvert, 31% sensing, 22% feeling, and 34% percieving.

I do agree with the results of the personality quiz because I can understand where the results are coming from. As I person, I think that I tend to shy away from a place that has a lot of people, especially a lot of noise. I'm also incredibly sensitive to certain things. Whenever I watch a movie, I end up crying even if the scene could be a happy scene. Not only that, my feelings are easily hurt depending on the person. I like to try and think about the most rational approach to things, but sometimes I end up doing things that can be considered a decision which my heart made rather than my brain.

looking at the career choices which an ISFP is known to take, I most definetely don't agree though. I want to explore a career with a hands on approach, one where I can get a huge thrill. Either that or something where I can look at it and dive deep into it and understand it. The career choices had things like fashion design or artist.

I'd say that I agree with the personality quiz in majority, but the career choices definitely throw me off a bit.

  4. According to Carl yung's inspired quiz, my Humanmetrics Jung Typology type is ESFP. Exatravert (25%), Sensing (1%), Feeling (28%) Perceiving (6%)

You have moderate preference of Extroversion over Introversion (25%)
You have marginal or no preference of Sensing over Intuition (1%)
You have moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking (28%)
You have slight preference of Perceiving over Judging (6%)

I agree with my results. One of the ESFP career choice that the website stated is the major that I would like to take in college. The Learning style is exactly how I think : An ESFP’s interest in learning a certain subject revolves around the question “Am I enjoying this?” The more they enjoy what they are learning, the greater their interest in the topic and the greater their desire to learn and take part in the direct application of what they learn. Their desire to study something is driven by the possibility of using what they learn to bring joy to others.

According to the website this describes me as an ESFP(which I agree with):

"Where's the party?" ESFPs love people, excitement, telling stories and having fun. The spontaneous, impulsive nature of this type is almost always entertaining. And ESFPs love to entertain -- on stage, at work, and/or at home. Social gatherings are an energy boost to these "people" people.

SPs sometimes think and talk in more of a spider-web approach. Several of my ESFP friends jump from thought to thought in mid-sentence, touching here or there in a manner that's almost incoherent to the listener, but will eventually cover the waterfront by skipping on impulse from one piece of information to another. It's really quite fascinating.

New! ESFPs are attracted to new ideas, new fashions, new gadgets, new ______. Perhaps it's the newness of life that attracts ESFPs to elementary education, especially to preschool and kindergarten.

ESFPs love to talk to people about people. Some of the most colorful storytellers are ESFPs. Their down-to-earth, often homespun wit reflects a mischievous benevolence.

  5. ISFP
    Introvert(9%)  Sensing(9%)  Feeling(12%)  Perceiving(22%)
    * You have slight preference of Introversion over Extraversion (9%)
    * You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (9%)
    * You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (12%)
    * You have slight preference of Perceiving over Judging (22%)
I agree with these test results. I do act on impulse and I am often aloof and detatched. I always go with my gut feeling and I am willing to take risks. i highly prefer experimental learning over organized learning. “ISFPs often find themselves in occupations that involve communications with customers and/or requiring a good sense of aesthetics, for example, in customer support roles, store sales associate roles (where it is not required to sell aggressively). Child care is also a favorable to ISFPs area. Working with data and spreadsheets is also suitable. ISFPs are able to realize their aesthetic abilities in arts, design and creative media companies.” I find the career choices very accurate because I love working with people and in the future I hope to be a child educator.

  6. My personality type was ENFP
I have marginal or no preference of Extraversion over Introversion (1%)
I have moderate preference of Intuition over Sensing (34%)
I have moderate preference of Feeling over Thinking (31%)
I have moderate preference of Perceiving over Judging (53%)
My personality type does fit me very well. I'm a balance of introversion and extroversion, though I may not seem like it. I do perceive more than I judge but I don't know if I let my feelings overpower my thinking when it comes to my actions. I tend to over think things instead of going with my gut instinct and it doesnt turn out well. Jobs that were suggested for my personality type are writers, journalists, and social workers. It was always a dream job of mine to be a writer but I never thought I could make a career out of it. Now that I took this test, maybe I should go along with it

  7. Results and Reflections:

 You have distinct preference of Introversion over Extraversion (57%)

I do think that I have a preference of introversion over extraversion. However, I believe when I go to college, my preference will change, as I am anticipating the new and exciting experiences college has to offer, and I believe I will be very open in expressing myself about them.

 You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (19%)

I do not think this is true necessarily all of the time. I think the context of the situations at hand determines how I will respond, but I do not think I have a preference.

 You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (10%)

Again, I think the context of the situations at hand determines how I will respond, but I do not think I have a preference.

 You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (38%)

This is very interesting. I do not believe this to be true about me, but who knows: maybe it is and I don’t realize it! I would like to go back and see which questions I answered indicated this result.

  8. Extraverted iNtuitive Feeling Perceiving

These were my results for taking the personality test. Honestly, I think that these results were rather accurate and fit me to a tea. I am both an idea and a people person and I love talking and being with others. Sometimes I do act very serious but also I have a completely opposite silly side. I agree with being a global learner. It is extremely interesting to travel the world and see what is beyond these fifty states. I would love to learn about all the cultures that there are and I can't wait to share in most if not all experiences.

  9. My results were:
    Extravert, sensing, thinking, perceiving

I think that these results fit me. I never really thought about how I look at things in this way. As I was answering the questions I really had to think about some of the answers because I never really thought about how I perceive things before. I think that the results describe be pretty well, but to be honest I'm not completely sure.

  10. My results are: Introvert, Sensing, Feeling, and Judging

-You have moderate preference of Introversion over Extraversion (47%)

I think that this result was spot on. I do consider myself an introvert as many of my friends have heard me say, "People scare me." But, I am not so much of an introvert that the thought of talking to others makes me want to crawl under a rock. It just takes me a little more time to get comfortable with people and hold a full 20 minute conversation with them. But, I am guessing most people could have seen that I am an introvert from my quiet nature.

-You have slight preference of Sensing over Intuition (12%)

I think that this is partially correct, because I do have a problem with second guessing myself a lot. As i think that I should just go with my gut feeling, I stop and wonder, but is going with my gut the best choice? Then I sit and try and weigh my other options. But, this of course, would depend on the situation.

-You have slight preference of Feeling over Thinking (22%)
This would depend on the situation, but I think this one is not as accurate. I tend to over think things quite often, because I don't want any problems caused by my actions. So I do think I am more of thinking over feeling. I will sympathize with people, but I also will think about the situation carefully.

-You have slight preference of Judging over Perceiving (9%)

This, I can't say much about because I have never really thought about it. I will say that I am judgmental, but because I'm an introvert, those thoughts would always stay inside anyway.

  11. My results are:

    INTJ
    Introvert(19%) iNtuitive(16%) Thinking(34%) Judging(31%)
You have slight preference of Introversion over Extraversion (19%)
You have slight preference of Intuition over Sensing (16%)
You have moderate preference of Thinking over Feeling (34%)
You have moderate preference of Judging over Perceiving (31%)

I think this test is pretty accurate. INTJ’s are sometimes referred to as “architects”, people who like analyzing and maneuvering problems like a chess game. We also like to learn, and prefer to spend most of our time alone.
I’ve always known that I’m a bit of an introvert, because after hanging out, even if it’s for a short amount of time, I always feel tired afterwards. Not that I didn’t enjoy myself or have fun with my friends, just that at the end of it all I’m eager to go home and read a book in the silence of my room.
I also know that I think in a very practical, black and white way. That’s why I don’t really call myself an artist. I draw well, I can copy what I see, but my art doesn’t involve the common emotional undertone present in most works. That’s why I don’t like abstract paintings. I can appreciate portraits and still-lifes because of the detail and meticulous work of the artist, but splatters of paint on a canvas board just leave me thinking, “So what.”

I’m not surprised that my highest percent is “thinking” because I do tend to think a lot. So much sometimes that it’s a bit frustrating, because that often leads to over-thinking, which in turn leads to stressing out.
